Michael Phelps (USA) Wins 3rd Swimming Gold - Stays on track for 8 Gold Medals
Michael Phelps from United States of America has won the third gold today at Beijing Olympics. This third gold came in mens 200m Freestyle swimming event.
With this Phelps is still in contention of fulfilling his dream of winning 8 Gold medals in an Olympic event. There are 5 more to go. It will be very interesting to watch his remaining events and see if he becomes the first person in the history of Olympics to win 8 Gold Medals.
Michael Phelps 3rd Gold of Beijing 2008 Olympics game came at the National Aquatic center Beijing today when he broke the world record in the 200 meters freestyle swimming event.
He won in 1:42.96 to beat his previous world mark of 1:43.86 set in Melbourne in 2007.
Park Tae-hwan from the Republic of Korea (South Korea), who won the Gold medal in the 400m Freestyle on Sunday, was second to Michael Phelps throughout the race and held off a challenge from Peter Vanderkaay (USA) to touch for the silver medal in 1:44.85; 1.89 seconds behind the American.
Peter Vanderkay (USA), who had qualified fastest for the final, won the bronze medal in 1:45.14.
China continues to lead the Medals Tally with 9 Golds, followed closely by USA with 6 Golds.
